How to recover from a high-stress day

You can't always avoid high-stress days. You can choose how completely you let them carry over.

The evening recovery protocol after a stress-heavy day matters more than on a normal day. Sympathetic activation is elevated. Cortisol is high. Sleep is at risk.

The protocol

Movement. Walk, light cardio, anything that burns through the activation. 20–30 minutes is enough.

Shower. Warm, then briefly cool. The temperature contrast supports vagal-nerve activation.

Phone away. Doom-scrolling on a stressed day extends the stress curve.

Real food. Stable blood sugar makes the parasympathetic shift easier.

Calming stack. Magnesium, L-theanine, GABA, apigenin — the compounds that support the nervous-system downshift.

Bed time defended. Don't try to 'make up' the lost productive evening hours by staying up. You'll wreck tomorrow.
