The quality of the meeting starts with the state you enter it in. Stressed, reactive, distracted — you don't think well, listen well, or decide well.
The 5-minute protocol
Minute 1: breath. 6 cycles of box breathing (4-4-4-4). Drops sympathetic activation.
Minute 2: read notes. Last meeting's notes if continuing, or pre-read if new. No phone, no email.
Minute 3: decide the outcome. What's the single most important thing to leave the meeting with? Decision, alignment, information?
Minute 4: water + stretch. 30 seconds of standing, neck rolls, water.
Minute 5: arrive 2 minutes early. Don't burst in. Sit. Settle.
Why it matters
You'll out-think, out-listen, and out-decide everyone who's still in reactive mode. Compound this over 100 meetings a month and the difference is enormous.
Where MHODE ON fits
For long-form deep work, not single meetings — but if you're walking into a high-stakes block of meetings, calm focus matters.
