The supplement aisle sells "magnesium" — but the form matters dramatically.
Magnesium oxide
The cheapest form. Roughly 4% bioavailable. Mostly passes through your gut. Often produces digestive side effects. Common in low-quality supplements.
Magnesium citrate
Better bioavailability than oxide. Best known for its laxative effect at higher doses. Useful for digestion, less ideal for sleep support.
Magnesium glycinate
Magnesium bound to glycine, an amino acid that itself has calming properties. High bioavailability. Well-tolerated even at higher doses. Commonly used in evening recovery formulations.
Magnesium L-threonate (Magtein)
The only form that meaningfully crosses the blood-brain barrier. Researched for cognitive applications. More expensive.
What MHODE OFF uses
MHODE OFF uses magnesium glycinate — the form most aligned with relaxation, nervous-system support, and tolerable daily use.
Food supplement. Not intended to treat or cure.
